the 5th International Summer School on Aerogels

The department of Aerogels at the German Aerospace Center is organizing the 5th International Summer School on Aerogels in Cologne, Germany, on September 19-21, 2018.
Aerogels are nano-structured open porous materials synthesized via a sol-gel process. They most often combine such extraordinary properties as high porosity (up to 99.9 %), ultralow density (50-200 kg/m3), high surface area (up to 2000 m2/g). They can be synthesized from inorganic or organic precursors. Students, PhD-Students, Postdocs, experienced scientists from universities, research organization and industry are invited to make a unique experience in the synthesis and characteri-zation of a fascinating nano-structured material. During this workshop participants will be introduced to the fascinating properties of Aerogels and perform many experiments learning how to synthesize and characterize inorganic, organic and bio-polymeric aerogels.
The department of Aerogels at the German Aerospace Center is cooperatively organizing this with the technical University Hamburg-Harburg, the University of Salzburg, Austria and the EMPA in Dübendorf, Switzerland.
