Training for teachers VBIO-NRW: Ecosystem Earth: Human-environment interaction in the 21st century
On 8 March 2025, the 4th VBIO-NRW training course will take place in Cologne in cooperation with the German Physiological Society (DPG), the Society for Ecology (GfÖ) and the DLR Institute of Aerospace Medicine. Various lectures on the effects of environmental stressors will be held at the aerospace medicine research facility :envihab. The participants will then develop teaching materials and discuss them.
The content of the event:
In the age of the Anthropocene, we have to deal with many environmental changes caused by humans that have significant consequences for biological, geological and atmospheric processes on Earth. New technologies and the view from space enable us to detect changes and demonstrate the effects of environmental stressors. The lectures will look at a number of phenomena by way of example: the enormous performance of birds during their migrations, for example, and how forest ecosystems in Central Europe are managed and the consequences this has for biodiversity. The effects on humans are also considered, as they are subject to the influence of a variety of environmental factors throughout their lives and react to these with their own regulatory mechanisms, but also with illness.
