Following the signing of the Implementing Arrangement between the German Space Agency at DLR and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) in November 2023, both agencies launched a joint initiative dedicated to the use of automotive technologies and EEE components for space applications.
The resulting German-Japanese network brings together companies, research institutes, and space agencies from both countries to exchange expertise, discuss technological developments, develop new project ideas, and strengthen international cooperation across the space and automotive sectors.
As part of this initiative, two workshops are organized each year, one fully virtual and one hybrid event, alternating between Germany and Japan.
The initiative aims to address the evolving challenges of using automotive and COTS components in New Space missions, establish international best practices, and promote cross-border collaboration between leading experts from Germany and Japan.
The German Space Agency at DLR, in cooperation with Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), is organizing the 7th German-Japanese Workshop “Usage of Automotive EEE Components in Space Applications” on 9 June 2026 in Berlin.
