SUMMARY:{:de}Fotoausstellung „Space Girls Space Women“{:}{:en}Photo Exhibition „Space Girls Space Women“{:}
DESCRIPTION:Picture: ESA \n  \nWomen who reach for the stars \nIs it a man’s world in space? No way! The ‘Space Girls Space Women’ photography exhibition\, to be showcased for the first time in Germany from 11 January to 14 October 2018 at Universum® Bremen\, presents 24 very special women from the space industry: girls who have their heads in the stars\, female students who are passionate about space and female experts who are at the heart of the space adventure. Inspired by the international touring exhibition\, Universum® is also showcasing seven portraits of Bremen women who are pursuing their dream career in the space sector. \n‘Space Girls Space Women’ is organised by the international photographic agency\, Sipa Press\, and made possible thanks to the commitment of the European Space Agency (ESA). The French Space Agency\, CNES\, the NEREUS network\, the French theme park\, Cité de l’espace\, and the European Union’s Agency for Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GSA) are also involved in this collaboration. \nDate: The ‘Space Girls Space Women’ photographic exhibition will be on display from 11 January to 14 October 2018 at Universum® Bremen (Wiener Straße 1a\, 28359 Bremen). Entry is included in the standard admission price. \n

SUMMARY:{:de}DLR Conference on Climate Change 2018  (CCC-2018){:}{:en}DLR Conference on Climate Change 2018 - CCC2018{:}
DESCRIPTION:We kindly invite you to the \nDLR Conference on Climate Change 2018 –\nAtmospheric Research for Understanding and Mitigating Climate Change \nin collaboration with the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) \nUnderstanding how variations in the Earth’s climate come about has become one of the most important issues mankind will have to deal with in forthcoming decades. Though it is extremely likely that human activity is one of the causes of global warming\, the scale of the warming and the associated changes in the probability distribution of many climate variables are still virtually undefined. It is therefore crucial that these issues are more thoroughly analyzed to help combat the negative effects that changes in climatic processes have on our planet. \nThe aim of the Paris Agreement is to reinforce the global response to the threats arising from climatic change by\, for example\, imposing a global temperature rise within this century well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. The agreement underlines the necessity to study ways of reducing the consequences of climate change. \nThis scientific conference aims to bring international scientists\, space agencies and interested parties together with United Nations entities such as UNOOSA\, UNSPIDER\, UNFCCC\, WMO and GCOS and thus provide a discussion forum to elaborate on the substantial challenges faced in atmospheric climate research. By encouraging an open exchange of ideas we hope to facilitate the implementation of suitable measures to support the requirements as outlined in Paris. \nPlease visit www.dlr.de/ccc2018 for more information and online registration.

SUMMARY:{:de}Hochleistungstechnologie Thermoanalyse – Neue Messmethoden und wissenschaftliche Anwendungen in der Luft- und Raumfahrt{:}{:en}High-performance thermal analysis technology – new measurement techniques and scientific applications for the aerospace industry{:}
DESCRIPTION:During this event\, the DLR Institute of Composite Structures and Adaptive Systems will present various analysis techniques for fibre-reinforced materials. The characteristic values determined using thermal analysis are used in the design and simulation of structures. During production\, the characterisation of resin systems controls specific component properties and optimises process times. The Institute will also demonstrate how new measuring methods can be developed\, normalised and converted into general standards. \nA tour of the Institute is intended to provide an insight into overall research areas. \nMore information and the agenda can be found here.

SUMMARY:{:de}Astroseminar 2018 - 3. Atom- und Molekülphysik{:}{:en}Astroseminar 2018 - 3. Atomics and molecule physics {:}
DESCRIPTION:Picture: NASA \n+++ Unfortunately\, the event is fully booked. No further registration.  +++ \nProf. Dr. Jürgen Stutzki\, Cologne University                                                                      \n17 April 2017 \nThe atomic and molecular properties of baryonic matter affect the astrophysical processes unfolding in the Universe. They determine the energy levels\, the possible reactions between nuclei\, atoms and molecules and the energy exchange between matter and the radiation field in many ways. The Universe would look very different from what it does today if the atoms and molecules in it possessed different properties. \nThe talk draws on a number of examples on a macrophysical scale to explain these contextualities between random boundary conditions and the consequent properties that define the Universe that we observe around us. \nJürgen Stutzki is Professor and Chair at the Institute of Physics\, University of Cologne. Professor Stutzki’s research focuses on infrared and molecular astronomy. He is also part of the German team that conducts scientific observation flights on the NASA/DLR SOFIA airborne observatory. \n\nATTENTION: The events will be held from 15:30–17:00 at the Air Force Conference Centre\, Wahn Air Force Base\nInformation on entry times and parking on the barracks grounds will be published in good time on dlr.de/en.\nTo register\, please contact Petra Naoum (tel: +49 203 / 601-3896) or send an e-mail: Petra.Naoum@dlr.de\nFor any questions on the topics of the Astroseminar\, contact Manfred Gaida (tel: +49 228 / 447-417)\nFor an overview of past seminars visit http://www.volkssternwarte-bonn.de/wordpress/archiv
