SUMMARY:Joint Space Weather Summer Camp 2019
DESCRIPTION:Picture: NASA \nThe Joint Space Weather Summer Camp 2019 gives eight students from Germany\, South Africa and the United States the opportunity to peek behind the scenes of space weather research. During the four-week programme\, students will learn the theoretical basis for studying space weather and explore its practical applications. The summer camp is being organised by DLR in cooperation with the South African National Space Agency (SANSA) and the University of Alabama in Huntsville. The first two weeks of the camp (15 June to 29 June 2019) will be held at the DLR site in Neustrelitz\, which is responsible for receiving satellite data and conducting research into the ionosphere. Then\, from 30 June to 14 July 2019\, the students will visit the SANSA research facility in Hermanus (South Africa). During this time\, they will research the impact of space weather on the Earth’s geomagnetic field and its implications for modern technology. \nIn addition to the scientific aspects\, the camp will feature excursions to prestigious institutions such as the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Greifswald. This will give the students the opportunity to learn how the Wendelstein 7-X works and to learn about the applications of plasma research. The summer camp is designed for students in bachelor\, master or Diplom degree programmes in the areas of mathematics\, physics\, information technology or engineering. \nPlease find information about the application process in the Summer Camp leaflet (download below on this page). \nApplication deadline: 31 march\, 2019.    \n

SUMMARY:{:de}24. ESA-Symposium „European Rocket and Balloon Programmes“{:}{:en}The 24th ESA Symposium on European Rocket and Balloon Programmes{:}
DESCRIPTION:Bild: EMG – Essen Marketing Group GmbH / Peter Wieler \nThe 24th ESA Symposium on European Rocket and Balloon Programmes and Related Research is organized and sponsored by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the German Aerospace Center (DLR). The symposium programme will be defined by the Programme Committee\, which is composed of experts from ESA and member states of the Esrange and Andøya Special Project (EASP) Agreement\, France\, Germany\, Norway\, Switzerland and Sweden. \nThis symposium will be the 24th in a series of conferences started in 1973 by the Member states of EASP\, in order to provide a discussion forum for scientists and engineers using sounding rockets and balloons for basic and technical research\, education as well as other applications. The programme of the Symposium also includes related research by means of ground-based\, aircraft and satellite instruments as well as new technical developments within rocket and balloon systems and instrumentation and ranges facilities. \nThe symposium participants will be given the opportunity for reporting both on their latest achievements and on plans for the future in the various scientific and technical fields. These symposia are also widely recognized meetings for efficient communication amongst scientists\, representatives of various space agencies\, engineers\, project managers\, range personnel and administrators\, and thereby have become the starting point for intensified collaboration. \nConference Office mail adress: pac@esa.int \n  \n

SUMMARY:{:de}Tag der offenen Tür am DLR Standort Bonn{:}{:en}Open Day at DLR site in Bonn{:}
DESCRIPTION:The German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Bonn is opening its doors for the second time on 16 June 2019 and is happy to welcome you to take a look behind the scenes at the DLR Project Management Agency\, the Space Administration and the Project Management Agency for Aeronautics Research and Technology. \nThe visitors will be able to walk through a simulated ‘forest’ of neurons\, practice reacting to allergic shock in children in a simulator\, compete on the computer for efficient transport routes\, explore the world of the red kite bird of prey and learn how to get involved in the environment and nature conservation. \nSpin-offs from the space industry\, a virtual journey to the International Space Station (ISS) and Jupiter’s moon Europe. Welcome CIMON®\, the ISS’s mobile astronaut assistant\, and get an impression of the engine of Ariane 6\, Europe’s most powerful launch vehicle. Furthermore\, visitors can expect impressive pictures and information about the 50th anniversary of the Moon landing\, Copernicus and the flying observatory SOFIA. \nEvery passenger expects safety\, reliability and quality when boarding an aircraft. We will show you how modern engine technology\, advanced construction methods and\, last but not least\, digialisation in the cabin try to live up to these expectations. \nIn addition\, DLR will also be presenting itself as an attractive employer. \n  \nStage programme \n10:00 Admission \n10:30 Live Music: The MadSonix \n11:30 Greeting \nWelcoming address by Klaus Hamacher\, Deputy Chair of the DLR Executive Board and Walther Pelzer\, Executive Board Member of the Space Administration \nGreeting Ashok Sridharan\, Lord Mayor of Bonn \n12:15 Space Show \n13:00 Presentation DLR Space Administration \n13:30 Presentation DLR Project Management Agency \n14:00 Presentation of the Project Management Agency for Aeronautics Research and Technology \n14:45 Space Show \n16:00 Live Music: YASSMO’ & the Soulfisticated People \n17:00 End. \n  \nGeneral information \nOn the day of the event\, limited parking will be available in the multi-storey car park in Karl-Duwe-Straße and Joseph-Schumpeter-Allee.
