SUMMARY:EMEA2022: Workshop on Ion Exchange Membranes for Energy Applications
DESCRIPTION:90 participants from 20 countries made the last EMEA-workshop in June 2021 a success\, even if it was the first time\, the workshop had to be held online due to the pandemic limitations. We are very pleased to announce that the upcoming EMEA2022 Workshop is planned as an on-site event again! \nMaterial developments and ion exchange membrane-based systems for energy applications will be discussed in presence by representatives from research and industry with the focus set on anion exchange membranes. In addition to invited and contributed talks a poster exhibition offers scientists and especially young researchers and students the opportunity to present their work. A price for the best poster will be awarded. A welcome reception and the conference dinner will provide additional opportunities for lively scientific exchange in a familiar atmosphere. \nAlso this year\, the EMEA organisation team was able to attract top-class speakers from the field of alkaline ion exchange membranes for energy applications.

SUMMARY:Nationales Forum für Fernerkundung und Copernicus

SUMMARY:{:de}World ATM Congress 2022{:}{:en}World ATM Congress 2022{:}
DESCRIPTION:The World ATM Congress in Madrid is the largest event in the field of air navigation and air traffic control. From June 21st to 23rd in Madrid\, it combines a major exhibition with a conference. Almost ten thousand specialist visitors from all over the world use this annual opportunity to familiarise themselves with the latest trends and developments in this field. DLR will be there with several research exhibits: at booth no. 351. \nThe DLR Institute of Flight Guidance together with the Institute of Atmospheric Physics and the Netherlands Aerospace Centre (NLR) will exhibit current research projects for the air traffic control of the future. DLR will showcase three exhibits this year: \nRemote Tower meets Virtual Reality \nANSPs and airports benefit from synergies provided by remote air traffic services\, but many airports with very low revenues are nevertheless unable to afford state-of-the-art remote-tower technology. These predominantly smaller airports often do not provide a full air traffic control service but instead offer lower levels\, such as aerodrome flight information service\, or just a universal communication station. An off-the-shelf pan-tilt-zoom camera supplemented with a basic video panorama\, whose video streams are presented by a virtual reality headset\, would be perfectly suitable for those basic service levels and\, most importantly: affordable for low-revenue airports. DLR prototyped and tested such a “very low-cost” remote-tower concept and will present first results. \nSpeech Recognition meets Air Traffic Control \nToday the most advanced digital assistants in air traffic control (ATC) already have access to a large number of sensors that allow monitoring of traffic in the air and on the ground. Voice communication between air traffic controller and pilot\, however\, as one of the most central sources of information in ATC\, is not considered by these assistants. Whenever the information from voice communication has to be digitized\, controllers are burdened to enter the information manually. Research results show that up to one third of the working time of controllers is spent on these manual inputs. Assistant Based Speech Recognition (ABSR) can close the gap of digitizing ATC voice communication. A live demonstration on the capabilities of ABSR on recognizing and understanding speech from pilots\, air traffic and apron controllers within different applications can be seen at the AT-One booth. \nPlate Lines – Mitigating Wake-Turbulence Risk \nWhen an aircraft is in flight\, counter-rotating regions of turbulence\, known as wake vortices\, are formed behind it. Wake vortices pose a potential threat to following air traffic. By deploying patented plate lines situated in front of the runway\, the lifetime of wake vortices in ground proximity can be reduced by about 30%. The resulting safety benefits for final approaches may\, in a next step\, even allow reducing aircraft separations. How this can be achieved is on display at the AT-One booth – from the theory behind the plate-line principle elucidated by a hands-on experiment through to the demonstration campaign conducted at Vienna Airport.

SUMMARY:25th Cologne Solar Colloquium
DESCRIPTION:25th Cologne Solar Colloquium\nFocus Topic: Digital Technologies for Concentrated Solar Power\n22 June 2022 – Hybrid conference with in-person event in Juelich\, Germany\nJuelich 10:00-17:00 h | Online 10:00-16:00 h\n \nDLR’s Cologne Solar Colloquium is the largest conference for solar thermal power plant technologies in the German-speaking area. This year\, we focus on digital technologies. \nAlready today\, digital technologies play a vital role and will become even more essential in the years to come. They offer plant developers and operators numerous fields of application to enhance a plant’s efficiency\, allowing higher outputs\, and lower electricity generation costs. \nSpeakers from DLR and our partner companies will present insights into current market trends and ongoing developments in the field of digital technologies for concentrated solar power. \nAfter two years being held as online event\, we are this year looking very much forward to an in-person event at DLR’s Juelich site. For those who cannot attend in person\, we offer the possibility to follow the presentations in real time and to address their questions via Chat. \nFor the online participants the programme ends at 16:00 h. We invite the participants in Juelich to visit the solar towers\, where we will give a demonstration of different systems\, beeing developed from DLR and industry partners. We will also take you to a guided tour up on the Multifocus tower. \nMore information
