SUMMARY:3rd International Workshop on Carnot Batteries
DESCRIPTION:The 3rd International Workshop On Carnot Batteries jointly organized by KIT\, University Stuttgart and DLR will be held\nin Stuttgart on September 27-28\, 2022. \nThe solution of the energy storage issue is an outstanding challenge to our society. The integration of intermittent sources of electric power from renewable energies into the future energy infrastructure requires storage capacities in gigawatt hours. \nThe site-independent and at the same time\, inexpensive storage of electrical energy on the scale of the daily consumption of a large city is of existential importance worldwide for the integration of renewable energy into a sustainable energy system of the future. The technology of the isentropic energy storage system represents a promising approach to solve this issue. \nCarnot batteries are an emerging technology for the inexpensive and site-independent storage of electric energy at gigawatt hour scale. Also referred to as “Pumped Thermal Electricity Storage” (PTES)\, “Pumped Heat Electricity Storage” (PHES) or “Electro-Thermal Energy Storage” (ETES)\, a Carnot Battery transforms electricity into heat\, stores the heat in inexpensive storage media like water or molten salt and transforms the heat back to electricity when required. \nCarnot batteries have the potential to solve the global storage problem of renewable electricity in a more economic and environmentally friendly way than conventional batteries. \nThe technology of the Carnot battery has been subject to intensive energy research over the last few years. There are many international research activities on a theoretical and experimental level and several concepts for Carnot batteries have been proposed. The increasing interest in this technology is also reflected in the founding of the IEA Storage Annex 36 “Carnot Batteries”. \nThe 3rd International Workshop on Carnot batteries will bring together experts in energy storage\, in particular thermal energy storage\, to discuss the state of the art of research and demonstration of  Carnot batteries. \nIn a two-day lecture programme\, a broad overview of innovative research approaches will be provided\, and topics of different Carnot battery concepts and their demonstration and integration into the power grid and sector coupling will be addressed. Numerous participants from science and industry have already confirmed their participation (see list of speakers). The workshop serves as an international platform to present latest results in Carnot batteries research and make them internationally visible.

SUMMARY:Deutscher Luft- und Raumfahrtkongress (DLRK) 2022
DESCRIPTION:After a successful and largely virtual German Aerospace Congress (DLRK) 2021\, this year’s DLRK will in all probability take place again as an on-site event. \nThe German Society for Aeronautics and Astronautics (DGLR) invites to the 71st DLRK from 27 to 29 September 2022 at the German Hygiene Museum in Dresden. \nThe DLRK is a congress with and for high-ranking scientists and industry representatives and thus a must-attend event for all researchers\, developers and decision-makers in the entire aerospace industry. This largest scientific and technical network meeting of the aerospace industry in Germany offers everyone – but especially young scientists – a forum for networking and presentation. \nWith numerous lectures\, discussion rounds and poster contributions\, DLRK 2022 also bridges the gap between the latest findings and trends from research and development and practical application. \nDLR will also be represented at DLRK again this year. \nYou can find more information here

SUMMARY:WindEnergy Hamburg 2022
DESCRIPTION:WindEnergy Hamburg is an international trade fair for the wind industry. More than 1\,400 national and international exhibitors present their latest products and services at WindEnergy Hamburg\, covering the entire value chain of the wind industry\, both onshore and offshore. The range of exhibits includes systems and components\, planning and realisation\, materials\, production and storage\, as well as maintenance\, certification and quality management. The WindEnergy Hamburg trade fair reflects both the dynamics of the industry and the development in the current and future key markets worldwide. \nDLR is represented at the joint stand at hall B6 Booth B6.464 of the Wind Energy Research Association. \nFounded in 2013\, the Wind Energy Research Alliance pools the expertise of around 600 scientists to provide groundbreaking impetus for the energy supply of the future. The three partners German Aerospace Center (DLR)\, ForWind – Centre for Wind Energy Research of the Universities of Oldenburg\, Hannover and Bremen – and the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems (Fraunhofer IWES) are able to successfully work on long-term and strategically important large-scale projects thanks to their strength in personnel and networking with industry\, politics and research. This broad competence base supports the German wind energy industry in maintaining its technological leadership in international competition. The joint presence in the research association has international appeal and opens up synergies for upcoming large-scale projects in the wind industry\, which is increasingly professionalising its processes.
