SUMMARY:Bundesgartenschau (BUGA) 2023
DESCRIPTION:The German national garden show 2023 (short BUGA for “Bundesgartenschau”) in Mannheim will take place over 178 days from 14 April to 8 October 2023. For this purpose two areas Luisenpark and Spinelli Park\, will be developed on a total of 104 ha and connected with a cable car. \nAs a first use case for an automated ride operation\, the use of the prototype U-Shift is planned at BUGA23 in the experimental field. Approximately 2 million visitors are expected\, representing an operational scenario similar to a pedestrian zone due to the many contact points. \nIn order to demonstrate the U-Shift\, to give potential visitors the opportunity to exchange ideas with the scientists and to inform themselves about the prototypes\, a DLR pavilion will be the hub for DLR at the BUGA\, to which the experimental field is connected.

SUMMARY:{:de}Workshop on Current Challenges in Data Assimilation for Geospace Systems“ (GeoDAWG2023){:}{:en}Workshop on Current Challenges in Data Assimilation for Geospace Systems“ (GeoDAWG2023){:}
DESCRIPTION:The Workshop on Current Challenges in Data Assimilation for Geospace Systems“ (GeoDAWG2023) is organized by the IAGA working group GeoDAWG. \nThis workshop will take place in a hybrid format on July 20-22\, 2023 in Neustrelitz\, Germany. \nThe GeoDaWG 2023 Workshop provides a broader platform to discuss challenges in data assimilation applications to Geospace systems and identify the common ground to tackle these challenges. \nThe workshop will focus on some key questions typically faced by the participants: \n1. How to impose observational constraints by transferring information from observationally dense regions to sparse regions?\n2. How to mitigate unphysical increments that cause dynamical imbalance in the model?\n3. How to reduce the estimation problem dimension: benefits and limitations of reduced-state and parameter (driver) estimation?\n4. What are good means for validation\, verification and measuring improvement? \nWe encourage the participants to present their approaches and/or challenges in addressing these questions.\nThe expected outcome of the workshop includes a summary report on current challenges in data assimilation for geospace systems and the common ground to tackle these challenges and discussion on future plans for the GeoDAWG. \nThe official language of the event is English.

SUMMARY:{:de}Drahtloses Netzwerk im Weltraum:  ISS-Experiment zeigt neue Technologie{:}{:en}Wireless network in space: ISS experiment shows new technology{:}
DESCRIPTION:Wireless Compose is an experiment on the International Space Station (ISS) testing a wireless network using a technology called ultra-wideband. This network should allow astronauts and objects to communicate with each other without being disturbed by other signals. It consists of seven wireless modules designed to help determine the position of objects and astronauts and monitor their movements. In addition\, the experiment should use the energy from artificial light sources in order to be carried out efficiently. It is examined whether the network is suitable for monitoring environmental parameters within the ISS module and whether it can also be operated with radiation effects and energy harvesting. This experiment is also carried out in the EDEN ISS Greenhouse in Antarctica. \n…join online: Pexip Infinity Connect v3 (dlr.de)
