SUMMARY:{:de}Fotoausstellung „Space Girls Space Women“{:}{:en}Photo Exhibition „Space Girls Space Women“{:}
DESCRIPTION:Picture: ESA \n  \nWomen who reach for the stars \nIs it a man’s world in space? No way! The ‘Space Girls Space Women’ photography exhibition\, to be showcased for the first time in Germany from 11 January to 14 October 2018 at Universum® Bremen\, presents 24 very special women from the space industry: girls who have their heads in the stars\, female students who are passionate about space and female experts who are at the heart of the space adventure. Inspired by the international touring exhibition\, Universum® is also showcasing seven portraits of Bremen women who are pursuing their dream career in the space sector. \n‘Space Girls Space Women’ is organised by the international photographic agency\, Sipa Press\, and made possible thanks to the commitment of the European Space Agency (ESA). The French Space Agency\, CNES\, the NEREUS network\, the French theme park\, Cité de l’espace\, and the European Union’s Agency for Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GSA) are also involved in this collaboration. \nDate: The ‘Space Girls Space Women’ photographic exhibition will be on display from 11 January to 14 October 2018 at Universum® Bremen (Wiener Straße 1a\, 28359 Bremen). Entry is included in the standard admission price. \n

SUMMARY:{:de}KOMETEN – DIE MISSION ROSETTA{:}{:en}COMETS – THE ROSETTA MISSION {:}
DESCRIPTION:Journey to the Origins of the Solar System \nComets! They come from the outer reaches of the Solar System\, from regions far beyond the planets – billions of kilometres from the Sun. Comets are unusual\, spectacular and still relatively unexplored. They are dark bodies composed of dust and ice\, as old as the Solar System itself. As they approach the Sun\, they become active and their beauty unfolds against the night sky. Comets play a very important role in science. Will they reveal the key to the early history of Earth? Did the oceans’ waters arrive as cometary ice? Were hydrocarbon molecules from comets the fundamental building blocks of life on Earth?\nThese are the questions that are being investigated by the European Rosetta mission. After travelling for 10 years\, the Rosetta spacecraft reached comet 67P/Churyumov Gerasimenko. A few months later\, the spectacular landing of Philae on the comet’s surface made all the headlines. The mission came to an end in 2016 when the orbiter was set down on the comet in a controlled manoeuvre. Data from this scientific adventure is now available. The German Aerospace Center (DLR) invites you to the Natural History Museum Vienna\, where you will embark on a journey to the origins of the Solar System.

SUMMARY:{:de}International Conference on Space Operations{:}{:en}International Conference on Space Operations{:}
DESCRIPTION:Picture: Event Organiser \n  \nThe international conference on space operations (SpaceOps) is a technical forum for all people involved in space mission operations. Since its foundation in 1990\, SpaceOps has held thirteen biennial conferences hosted by various countries. The 15th edition\, titled „Inspiring Humankind´s Future“\, discusses state-of-the-art operations principles\, methods and tools. It provides an opportunity to foster managerial and technical interchange on all aspects of space mission operations\, including such areas as robotics\, human\, earth orbiting\, and deep space aspects of space operations. As in previous years\, DLR is contributing to SpaceOps with experts and an exhibition stand.

SUMMARY:{:de}UNISPACE+50 Ausstellung in Wien{:}{:en}UNISPACE+50 exhibition in Vienna{:}
DESCRIPTION:Picture: Event Organiser \n  \nIn 1959\, the United Nations established the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS)\, which aims to promote international collaboration among nations with regard to the exploration and use of space for peaceful purposes. In the past\, this space committee has organised several conferences – called UNISPACE – where the use of space technologies for the socio-economic development of countries has been discussed\, especially for developing nations. \nTo mark the 50th anniversary of the first UNISPACE conference\, the UNISPACE+50 exhibition is taking place this year\, alongside the outer space committee meeting. Forty-three stands will showcase the space industry’s contribution to the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Germany will also have a stand\, where it will present Alexander Gerst’s horizons mission\, as well as projects such as ICARUS\, EOMAP and EvIDENz\, and the contribution that TerraSAR-X makes to disaster management. \nPublic open day – 23 June 2018\nOn Saturday 23 June 2018\, the UNISPACE+50 exhibition will be open to the public from 09:00 to 12:30. From 10:00 to 11:00\, the former NASA Astronaut and current ‘United Nations Champion for Space’\, Scott Kelly\, will also be available for photographs and autographs. \nDirections and access information \nThe exhibition is being held in the Vienna International Centre (VIC)\, the United Nations campus in Vienna. The VIC is accessible via U-Bahn line 1 (Kaisermühlen VIC station). \nAdmission is free and advance registration is not required. Visitors must present valid ID (passport or ID card) and undergo a security check prior to entry. Bags and liquids may be taken into the building. \n  \nMore information about UNISPACE+50 is available here: http://www.unoosa.org/oosa/en/ourwork/unispaceplus50/index.html \n

SUMMARY:{:de}Führungen durchs DLR Institut für Raumfahrtsysteme{:}{:en}Guided tours of the DLR Institute of Space Systems{:}
DESCRIPTION:The German Aerospace Center (DLR) is the national aeronautics and space research centre of the Federal Republic of Germany. Visit DLR’s Institute of Space Systems in Bremen\, one of 20 DLR sites across Germany. \nThe Institute of Space Systems\, based in Bremen since 2007\, designs and analyses future spacecraft and space missions and assesses their technical performance and cost. This includes launchers\, orbital and exploration systems and satellites. The Institute also develops\, builds and operates its own spacecraft and missions for scientific investigations and technology demonstrations. In order to facilitate future space missions and improve the performance of existing technologies\, the Institute researches system-relevant technologies. \nTake a look behind the scenes of DLR \nLearn all about the Institute and its current projects during a guided tour of the laboratory building: why do we want to grow tomatoes on the Moon and Mars? How does a lander land on an asteroid and how do we monitor ships from space?\nCurrent projects set out to answer these questions. Visitors also have the opportunity to view a selection of laboratories and test facilities: the integration hall\, where satellites are assembled\, the Landing and Mobility Test Facility (LAMA)\, where the famous Philae lander was tested\, and the Cryo-Lab\, where scientific and technical issues of cryogenic fuel handling are investigated. Immerse yourself in the world of space research and see how Bremen contributes to this. \nDates\n26.01 = German + English\n23.02 = German + Spanish\n27.04 = German (fully booked) + English\n25.05 = German (fully booked) + Spanish\n29.06 = German (fully booked)\n27.07 = German (fully booked)\n31.08 = German (fully booked)\n28.09 = German (fully booked) + English\nAll at 15:00 \nAdmission is free of charge \nMeeting point:\nRobert-Hooke-Straße 7 \nRegistration is required for DLR guided tours and begins on 11 January 2018.
