SUMMARY:{:de}12th International Workshop on Subsecond Thermophysics{:}{:en}12th International Workshop on Subsecond Thermophysics{:}
DESCRIPTION:Bild: Dieter Jacobi / Köln Tourismus \nAbout the workshop \nThis will be the 12th of a series of well established workshops on experimental and theoretical aspects of thermophysical properties of matter. These workshops began more than 30 years ago as a forum of discussion of thermophysical property measurements based on subsecond techniques such as the exploding wire technique. The table below lists all previous workshops and the present one\, their hosting locations and their organizers. \nNowadays\, the workshop covers all aspects of thermophysical property research under extreme conditions\, such as high temperatures and pressures. The investigated timescale regimes reach from milliseconds to picoseconds\, including rapid resistive or inductive (volume) heating\, laser pulse heating\, levitation techniques on ground and under microgravity\, as well as other recently developed fast investigation techniques. The emphasis is on measurements of thermophysical properties at high temperatures and/or on the study of the behavior of matter under conditions close by and far away from thermodynamic equilibrium. \nThe workshop is held every three years. It has developed as a unique forum for scientists from different areas of thermophysics\, materials science and metrology where researchers can exchange knowledge\, ideas\, and experiences on the latest trends in the field. \nSince the 8th workshop\, the proceedings are published in the journal High Temperatures – High Pressures. \nThe 12th  IWSSTP will be organized by the Institut für Materialphysik im Weltraum\, Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR)\, Köln\, Germany. \nOn behalf of the International Organizing Committee\, we are looking forward to welcoming you at our location. \n  \nImportant Dates \nFebruary 2018: 1st Call of papers \nSeptember 1\, 2018: 2nd Call\, Abstract submission opens\, Registration opens \nJanuary 14\, 2019: Deadline abstract submission \nFebruary 15\, 2019: Acceptance of abstracts \nMarch 15\, 2019: Participation fee due \nJune 3\, 2019: Workshop opening \nJune 6\, 2019: Workshop closing.

SUMMARY:{:de}DLR-Astroseminar 2019: 50 Jahre Mondlandung - und danach (Teil 6){:}{:en}DLR Astro Seminar 2019: 50th anniversary of the Moon landing – and since (part 6){:}
DESCRIPTION:Picture: NASA \nPlease note that all lectures of the 2019 Astroseminar are fully booked. Registration is no longer possible at this point. In case you wish to be waitlisted\, please send an email to Rebecca.Bartkowski@dlr.de. \n6. From the Moon to Mars – and beyond? \nHumankind has been captivated by the Moon from the earliest days. It is used as a basis for calendars and provides light during full moons\, and since time immemorial it has appeared an unattainable goal. But all this changed at the dawn of the space age. The orbiter Luna 3 managed to capture a first ‘rough’ view of the far side of the Moon in 1959. The sensation arrived in 1969\, when two humans set foot on the Moon for the first time. Fifty years later\, the Moon has once again become a destination for crewed missions. NASA intends to start building a space station in lunar orbit in 2020 (the Lunar Orbital Platform Gateway)\, and China plans to place astronauts and taikonauts on its surface from 2036 onwards. There are numerous projects for voyages to Mars in the period thereafter\, although they would be technologically difficult and financially exorbitant due to the length of the mission and the distance from Earth\, as well as presenting risks to the health of the astronauts. Missions to near-Earth asteroids are therefore being investigated as an interim solution. There are even plans to send crews to the icy moons of Jupiter and Saturn\, although doing so would present even greater risks than those mentioned above. There are also ethical issues (for instance: planetary protection) associated with dispatching humans to places that may be home to lifeforms. All of these issues will need to be resolved. \nDr.-Ing. Christian Gritzner (born 1966) studied aviation and aerospace at TU Berlin from 1986 to 1992. He then completed a doctorate with a thesis on asteroid defence concepts in 1996. After a variety of positions within the industrial sector\, in research and teaching\, Dr Gritzner has been research fellow at the DLR Space Administration in Bonn-Oberkassel since 2005. Originally assigned to the Ariane 5 programme\, in 2008 he moved to the Department of Extraterrestrial Physics\, where he is responsible for the ESA missions JUICE\, Herschel\, Mars Express and others\, as well as for the meteorological high-altitude research rockets. He has also been in charge of the Solar System Emissions sub-programme since 2016. \nThe event will be held at the Air Force Conference Centre\, Wahn Air Force Base. Information on how to enter the Base complex and the parking facilities will be published ahead of the event on www.dlr.de. \nFor more information on the topic of the Astro Seminar\, please contact Dr Manfred Gaida.

SUMMARY:{:de}DLR_Raumfahrt_Show 2019 in Erfurt{:}{:en}DLR_Raumfahrt_Show{:}
DESCRIPTION:In autumn 2018\, the DLR_Raumfahrt_Show focused on Alexander Gerst’s horizons mission to the International Space Station. This year\, the programme will go ‘one small step’ further: to mark the 50th anniversary of the first Moon landing\, we will take viewers on an imaginary trip to the Moon\, sharing exciting information about our cosmic companion and this remarkable milestone in the history of space travel\, with amazing stage experiments\, fascinating videos and hands-on activities for the whole audience. How did the Moon form? How did it get its dark blotches\, sometimes referred to as the face of the “Man in the Moon”? And what scientific findings do we owe to the Apollo missions? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAt Erfurt\, the German astronauts Alexander Gerst and Ulf Merbold will give an account of their own experiences in space. Moreover\, Alexander Gerst will hand over a time capsule\, which was with him on his mission to ISS\, to a representative of the “Haus der Geschichte der Bundesrepublik Deutschland” (history museum of the Federal Republic of Germany). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDLR_Raumfahrt_Show is a German Aerospace Center initiative. It aims at encouraging young people to take an interest in research and technology. It is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi). The event is also supported by the Science Center experimenta (Heilbronn)\, Heinz Nixdorf MuseumsForum (Paderborn) and the Klaus Tschira Foundation.

Different components will be investigated and designed with regard to the application scenarios\, model-based processes for controlling the system will be demonstrated\, error cases simulated and a virtual commissioning of the digital prototype with a real coupled PLC will be shown. \nThe participants will be able to follow the digital product design in small groups on the computer themselves. In addition\, the basics of the methods used will be explained and further industrial applications will be presented. The workshop is aimed at development engineers and development managers\, and through to interested managing directors who are looking to boost their prototype development through physically correct simulations or setting up / expanding a simulation department. \n  \nOrganiser \nThe newly created Systems and Control Innovation Lab (SCIL) is located at the DLR Institute of System Dynamics and Control. In the modernly equipped laboratory hall\, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have access to the latest methods and software tools for modelling\, controlling and regulating complex mechatronic systems. \nThe ZD.B dual-topic platform Digital Production & Engineering is an innovation promoting platform for Bavaria’s experts in the fields of digital product development and production\, which is networked and sets impulses in terms of content. The ZD.B itself is a core element of the Bavarian State Government to strengthen Bavarian companies\, research institutions and founders in the context of digitalisation. \nTo registration

SUMMARY:{:de}2. DLR Unternehmerlounge{:}{:en}2nd DLR Business Lounge{:}
DESCRIPTION:On 27 June 2019\, DLR’s Technology Marketing department is organising the second DLR Business Lounge. \nThe Business Lounge is the DLR networking meeting for all former\, current and future DLR spin-offs. Here\, you have the opportunity to get in touch with relevant stakeholders\, gain an insight into spin-off activities at DLR and exchange ideas within  DLR’s internal start-up network. \nThe networking meeting will be accompanied by talks on spin-off relevant topics\, followed by a discussion. Different DLR spin-offs and start-up projects will also be presented. \nThe subject of this year’s Business Lounge is internationalisation. What opportunities and risks arise as a result of the development of new markets? When does it make sense to take the next step? \nTechnology Marketing has gotten two experts to speak about this topic: \nIn her talk\, Andrea Diewald from the German American Chamber of Commerce will discuss which factors are particularly important to enter the US market. She has many years of experience in supporting German spin-offs in entering the US market. \nIn his talk\, Wolfram Peschko\, Chairman of Mynaric AG\, will discuss his own experiences as an entrepreneur. In 2011\, he joined Mynaric AG (then called ViaLight Communication GmbH)\, a DLR spin-off from the Institute for Communications and Navigation\, which has since been successfully listed on the stock exchange and become internationally active. \nIf you are interested in participating\, please contact DLR’s Technology Marketing department. Contact: Dr. Feline Benisch.
