SUMMARY:Joint Space Weather Summer Camp 2019
DESCRIPTION:Picture: NASA \nThe Joint Space Weather Summer Camp 2019 gives eight students from Germany\, South Africa and the United States the opportunity to peek behind the scenes of space weather research. During the four-week programme\, students will learn the theoretical basis for studying space weather and explore its practical applications. The summer camp is being organised by DLR in cooperation with the South African National Space Agency (SANSA) and the University of Alabama in Huntsville. The first two weeks of the camp (15 June to 29 June 2019) will be held at the DLR site in Neustrelitz\, which is responsible for receiving satellite data and conducting research into the ionosphere. Then\, from 30 June to 14 July 2019\, the students will visit the SANSA research facility in Hermanus (South Africa). During this time\, they will research the impact of space weather on the Earth’s geomagnetic field and its implications for modern technology. \nIn addition to the scientific aspects\, the camp will feature excursions to prestigious institutions such as the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Greifswald. This will give the students the opportunity to learn how the Wendelstein 7-X works and to learn about the applications of plasma research. The summer camp is designed for students in bachelor\, master or Diplom degree programmes in the areas of mathematics\, physics\, information technology or engineering. \nPlease find information about the application process in the Summer Camp leaflet (download below on this page). \nApplication deadline: 31 march\, 2019.    \n
