SUMMARY:DLR-Astroseminar 2020: Kleinzeug im Sonnensystem - von Asteroiden\, Kratern und Meteoriten
DESCRIPTION:Bild: NASA/JPL-Caltech \nDie Entdeckung der Ceres durch Guiseppe Piazzi vor gut zweihundert Jahren lenkte nicht nur die Auf­merksamkeit des jungen Carl Friedrich Gauß auf das Gebiet der Himmelsmechanik und Bahnberech­nung\, sondern öffnete auch das Tor zu einer bis dahin unbekannten Welt kleiner und kleinster Himmels­körper\, die – wie wir heute wissen – viel über die Vergangenheit des Sonnensystems (und hierbei vor allem seiner Frühgeschichte) verraten können. Lange Zeit hindurch blieb ihre Erkundung mangels de­tailreicher Beobachtungsmöglichkeiten zwar auf bahndynamische Analysen und grobe spektroskopische Untersuchungen beschränkt\, doch auch damit konnten bereits zahlreiche Erkenntnisse über die kleinen Himmelskörper gewonnen werden. Trotzdem wurden die Astronomen von der unerwarteten Vielfalt dessen überrascht\, was sie seit dem ersten Vorbeiflug einer Raumsonde an einem Kleinplaneten im Jahre 1991 über die Zwerge des Sonnensystems gelernt haben. \nHermann-Michael Hahn studierte in Bonn Physik und Astronomie und wandte sich nach dem Diplom als freier Wissenschaftsjournalist der Berichterstattung über himmlische Themen in Presse\, Funk und Fernsehen zu. Darüber hinaus schrieb er zahlreiche populärwissenschaftliche Bücher wie etwa 1983 „Zwischen den Planeten“\, in dem er den damaligen Wissensstand über Kometen\, Asteroiden und Meteoriten zusammen­fasste. 2005 erhielt er für sein Buch „Outer Space“ den Hugo-Junckers-Preis des Luftfahrt-Presse-Clubs\, und 2012 zeichnete ihn die Astronomische Gesellschaft mit dem Bruno-H.-Bürgel-Preis aus – für „sein breit gefächertes Spektrum an Aktivitäten\, um vor allem Grundkenntnisse aus der Raumfahrt und Astronomie ei­nem breiten Publikum zu vermitteln.“ Hermann-Michael Hahn ist darüber hinaus seit fast 30 Jahren 1. Vor­sitzender der Vereinigung der Sternfreunde Köln\, e.V.\, die die Kölner Volkssternwarte betreibt. DESCRIPTION:Wir laden Sie herzlich ein zur ersten Weihnachtsvorlesung des Deutschen Zentrums für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) am Standort Stuttgart. Gemeinsam wollen wir uns jedes Jahr auf verständliche wie unterhaltsame Weise einem spannenden Thema aus dem Kosmos der DLR-Forschungsarbeiten nähern – ganz in der Tradition der öffentlichen britischen Christmas Lectures\, die der englische Naturforscher und Physiker Michael Faraday Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts an der Royal Institution ins Leben rief und die heute ein Millionenpublikum im Fernsehen begeistern. \nWeihnachtszeit ist Märchenzeit – passend dazu nimmt Prof. André Thess\, Direktor des DLR-Instituts für Technische Thermodynamik\, in seinem Vortrag „Energiewendemärchen“ kontroverse Themen rund um den Wandel unseres Energie- und Mobilitätssystems unter die Lupe. Ob „Der böse Verbrennungsmotor“ oder „Die billige Energiewende“ – André Thess legt den Wahrheitsgehalt populärer Argumentationsgebäude frei und zeigt\, dass es keine alternativlose Energie- und Klimapolitik geben kann. Der 1. Helmholtz Sustainability Summit konzentriert sich auf Fragen des Forschungsprozesses und beleuchtet Fragestellungen wie beispielsweise: \n\nWie betreiben wir Forschungsinfrastrukturen?\nWie planen wir möglichst nachhaltige Gebäude?\nWie können Forschungsgeräte langlebig eingesetzt oder wiederverwertet werden?\nWie muss eine nachhaltige Entwicklung der Forschungszentren in der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft aussehen?\nWas bedeutet nachhaltiges Personalmanagement in der Spitzenforschung?\n\nVerschiedene Expertinnen und Experten aus der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft werden mit Ihnen bei vielfältigen Interaktionsformaten das Forschen und Arbeiten mit Nachhaltigkeitsanspruch auf breiter Basis diskutieren und vorantreiben. Thematisch soll dies in Anlehnung zu den fünf Funktionsbereichen der LeNa-Handreichung (www.nachhaltig-forschen.de) geschehen. \nDer 1. Helmholtz Sustainability Summit 2019 ist eine interne Veranstaltung der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft. DESCRIPTION:Das DLR lädt Sie herzlich ein: \nDie globale Vernetzung von Wissenschaft und Forschung ist entscheidend für die Zukunftsfähigkeit des Wirtschaftsstandorts Deutschlands. Internationaler Austausch und Kooperationen prägen die Forschungslandschaft und den Forschungsalltag eines jeden Wissenschaftlers. \nUniversitäten und Forschungseinrichtungen verfügen dabei häufig über Technologie und Know-How mit doppeltem Verwendungszweck\, sog. Dual-Use-Güter\, die sowohl zivil als auch militärisch nutzbar sind und die zum Schutz der Sicherheitsinteressen der Bundesrepublik Deutschland außenwirtschaftsrechtlichen Beschränkungen unterliegen. Beschränkungen\, die im wissenschaftlichen Bereich etwa bei Forschungskooperationen mit ausländischen Forschungseinrichtungen\, bei der Zusammenarbeit mit Gastwissenschaftlern\, Versendung von wissenschaftlichen Geräten ins Ausland sowie beim Wissenstransfer oder Publikationen eine Rolle spielen können. \nVertreter des Bundesministeriums für Wirtschaft und Energie (BMWi) und  des Bundesamtes für Wirtschaft und Ausfuhrkontrolle (BAFA) informieren Sie über die Notwendigkeit von Exportkontrollen in Wissenschaft und Forschung und geben Tipps zur Umsetzung der außenwirtschaftsrechtlichen Vorgaben in wissenschaftlichen Einrichtungen. In the Star Wars Jedi Challenge\, visitors aged over 12 can face the forces of darkness with a light sabre and VR goggles\, while younger children can make little astronauts at the craft table or create their own planets and meteorites out of foam and paint\, which they can of course take home afterwards. All visitors over the age of 12 can test their susceptibility to dizziness in an aerotrim gyroscope. \nUrs Ganse\, space physics researcher at the University of Helsinki\, will read from his book ‘The Little Handbook for Budding Astronauts’ and prepare audience members for a future journey into space. He will provide light-hearted\, layman-friendly answers to questions about astronauts’ favourite food in space\, daytime and night-time\, space tourism\, spaceship designs and much more. \n‘Hello Universe!’ was conceived by HNF in cooperation with the DLR Space Administration.

DESCRIPTION:The Integrated Airport Operations (IAO PJ.28) project invites to an open day on 19th September at Hamburg Airport to showcase the uptake of SESAR technologies to improve the efficiency and safety of airport surface operations. \nHosted at the Hamburg Airport Conference Center\, the open day is organised within the framework of the IAO PJ.28 very large scale demonstration project. During the day\, visitors will be given an overview of the demos that have been performed illustrating the maturity of SESAR Solutions that are part of the Pilot Common Project: \n\nSolution #53 – Departure management synchronised with pre-departure sequencing\nSolution #02 – Airport safety nets\nSolution #22 – Automated assistance to controller for surface movement planning and routing\n\nVisitors will have a chance to see the systems that have been developed and successfully demonstrated at PCP airports (Nice)\, as well as non-PCP airports (Hamburg and Budapest). In the case of Hamburg\, the system will be demonstrated using live airport data\, providing visitors with a first-hand view of how the system works in real operation conditions. \nDue to the very high response\, the registration for the event is now limited. Participation in the presentations and hands-on demonstrations is still possible\, but you will be put on a waiting list for the visit of the Contingency Room. Only on the day of the event\, we will be able to tell you whether the visit is possible.

The 2017 event took place in Frankfurt and brought together more than 250\,000 people from the telecommunications\, energy and automotive industries\, as well as from the public transport market\, municipalities\, start-ups\, consulting companies and the academic community. Part of the International Motor Show Germany (IAA)\, New Mobility World attracts the attention of the automotive industry\, the media and policymakers. In 2019\, the event will focus on urban mobility\, mobility as a service\, clean and sustainable energy\, connectivity and automation. DLR will showcase its concepts for the mobility of tomorrow with a stand in the NMW EXPO exhibition area.

DESCRIPTION:Picture: Vadim Sadovski \nThe boundless cosmos\, gigantic rockets and weightless astronauts – during Paderborn Museum Night at Heinz Nixdorf Museums Forum (HNF) everything revolves around space. Planets\, stars\, astronomy and space travel are the focus of the evening. Until midnight visitors will be treated to a space-themed programme with numerous hands-on activities. They will be able to put together a 1000-piece space puzzle and Lego models such as the Mars Rover Curiosity or the Saturn V rocket. In the aerotrim gyroscope\, visitors aged 12 and over will be able to test their susceptibility to dizziness. Famous astronauts will be introduced by participants in this year’s North Rhine-Westphalia cultural backpack project\, “Behind the Moon\, my Foot!”. Admission to the museum is free all night\, including the big special exhibition ‘Hello Universe! The Experience of Space Travel’ and the photo exhibition ‘One Small Step – the Moon Landing in 50 Photographs’. Refreshments will be available. \n‘Hello Universe!’ was conceived by HNF in cooperation with the DLR Space Administration.

DLR’s aeronautics research on show will include a detailed demonstration model of its largest research aircraft\, the A320 ATRA. The HP3 experiment on the NASA Mars mission InSight as well as the MATROSHKA-III radiation dosimeter – the latter in collaboration with the Russian Institute of Biomedical Problems (IBMP) – represent DLR’s space research. The eROSITA x-ray telescope – supported by the DLR Space Administration with Federal Ministry of Economy and Energy in the field of space science – will also be displayed on the stand.

DESCRIPTION:On 21 July 2019 the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Oberpfaffenhofen will open its doors and welcome everyone with a thirst for knowledge. In addition to numerous fascinating presentations\, guided tours and demonstrations at the Institutes\, there will also be a varied programme of supporting events for guests. Presentations and talks will not only encompass memories of the first manned landing on the Moon 50 years ago\, but also look to the future. In addition\, a diverse space show presented by the DLR_School_Lab on the programme stage will explain to visitors in an entertaining yet informative way how\, for example\, microgravity works. \nIf the weather is favourable\, the flying sports group will offer sightseeing flights in gliders and powered aircraft giving visitors the opportunity to view events from above. Young researchers can test their knowledge during the Open Day with the children’s quiz. In addition to this\, there will also be a painting and crafts corner\, as well as other great items including the voluntary fire brigade and the Bavarian Red Cross. DLR’s cafeteria and numerous food stands will provide refreshments with a variety of meals and beverages. There will also be live music from two bands and a DJ. The DLR recruiting team provides you with information about entry opportunities at its career stand. \n  \nAdmission and Opening Times: \n\nAdmission is free of charge.\nEvent time: 10:00 – 17:00\nPlease note that the last admission is at 16:00!\n\nPlease pay attention to our event guidelines: \n\nDuring the event\, photography and/or filming will be taking place\, which may be used for the purposes of reporting and general publicity in various media. On entering the premises\, you consent to the possibility that you may appear in photographs or videos.\nPlease do not bring heavy luggage and rucksacks. During the event\, our security personnel will be carrying out random inspections. Thank you for your understanding.\nAnimals are not permitted at the venue.\nInstructions given on notices and signs must be observed.\nSmoking is prohibited inside the building. Outside the building\, smoking is only permitted in the designated areas.\nBicycles\, scooters\, skateboards and similar items are not permitted on the site.\n\nGetting here: \n\nPlease use public transport if possible – the timetable for the S-Bahn train line S8 can be found on the Munich Transport Corporation (MVG) website. There are three shuttle buses from the S-Bahn stations Neugilching and Weßling\, which provide a regular shuttle service between the train stations and DLR.\nFor visitors arriving by bicycle\, parking facilities are available in front of the entrance.\nPlease note that there are only a limited number of car parking spaces available outside the site.
