DESCRIPTION:Since March 2018\, the German Aerospace Center (DLR) has had the privilege to lead the ADVANCE Work Package. Now this Work Packages are coming to the end after 5 years of hard work. \nWe would like to share with the aviation community the achievements and results we have gathered. For this purpose we are organizing an ADVANCE dissemination event called ADVANCEd Aircraft Maintenance. \nWe would like to invite you to come and visit us at Hamburg’s ZAL on November 19 and 20. There will be an exciting space programme for families\, with guided tours and numerous hands-on activities. \nChildren can have fun exploring the special exhibition with a museum rally. In the Star Wars Jedi Challenge\, visitors aged over 12 can face the forces of darkness with a light sabre and VR goggles\, while younger children can make little astronauts at the craft table or create their own planets and meteorites out of foam and paint\, which they can of course take home afterwards. All visitors over the age of 12 can test their susceptibility to dizziness in an aerotrim gyroscope. \nUrs Ganse\, space physics researcher at the University of Helsinki\, will read from his book ‘The Little Handbook for Budding Astronauts’ and prepare audience members for a future journey into space. He will provide light-hearted\, layman-friendly answers to questions about astronauts’ favourite food in space\, daytime and night-time\, space tourism\, spaceship designs and much more. \n‘Hello Universe!’ was conceived by HNF in cooperation with the DLR Space Administration.

Being one of the youngest members of the ILRS\, it is a great honour to welcome laser ranging and geodesy experts from around the world to this workshop. \nWe are looking forward to five days of presentations\, posters\, many discussions on and off the stage and two exciting tours to our laser ranging facilities. True to the slogan “Laser ranging: To improve economy\, performance\, and adoption for new applications”\, we will focus on new\, but yet little discussed ideas from the community about the future of laser ranging. \nPlease will find information about the programme and the practicalities of the workshop on the website below. Information is being updated regularly\, so please make sure to check back every now and then. If you are missing any information\, please do not hesitate contacting us. \nParticipant registration and abstract submission are now open. The IWGI2019 will provide a platform to exchange views on ionospheric theory\, methods\, technologies\, applications and future challenges. The workshop is open to all scientists and engineers who may have the latest results in ionospheric scintillation\, reconstruction\, modelling\, monitoring techniques and prediction methodologies as well as ionospheric propagation effects on microwave space-based geodetic techniques such as the GPS\, SLR\, VLBI\, DORIS etc. and their mitigation using multi-frequency\, multi-sensors observations. DESCRIPTION:The Integrated Airport Operations (IAO PJ.28) project invites to an open day on 19th September at Hamburg Airport to showcase the uptake of SESAR technologies to improve the efficiency and safety of airport surface operations. \nHosted at the Hamburg Airport Conference Center\, the open day is organised within the framework of the IAO PJ.28 very large scale demonstration project. During the day\, visitors will be given an overview of the demos that have been performed illustrating the maturity of SESAR Solutions that are part of the Pilot Common Project: \n\nSolution #53 – Departure management synchronised with pre-departure sequencing\nSolution #02 – Airport safety nets\nSolution #22 – Automated assistance to controller for surface movement planning and routing\n\nVisitors will have a chance to see the systems that have been developed and successfully demonstrated at PCP airports (Nice)\, as well as non-PCP airports (Hamburg and Budapest). In the case of Hamburg\, the system will be demonstrated using live airport data\, providing visitors with a first-hand view of how the system works in real operation conditions. \nDue to the very high response\, the registration for the event is now limited. Participation in the presentations and hands-on demonstrations is still possible\, but you will be put on a waiting list for the visit of the Contingency Room. Only on the day of the event\, we will be able to tell you whether the visit is possible.

They will be able to put together a 1000-piece space puzzle and Lego models such as the Mars Rover Curiosity or the Saturn V rocket. In the aerotrim gyroscope\, visitors aged 12 and over will be able to test their susceptibility to dizziness. Famous astronauts will be introduced by participants in this year’s North Rhine-Westphalia cultural backpack project\, “Behind the Moon\, my Foot!”. Admission to the museum is free all night\, including the big special exhibition ‘Hello Universe! The Experience of Space Travel’ and the photo exhibition ‘One Small Step – the Moon Landing in 50 Photographs’. Refreshments will be available. \n‘Hello Universe!’ was conceived by HNF in cooperation with the DLR Space Administration.

DESCRIPTION:On 21 July 2019 the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Oberpfaffenhofen will open its doors and welcome everyone with a thirst for knowledge. In addition to numerous fascinating presentations\, guided tours and demonstrations at the Institutes\, there will also be a varied programme of supporting events for guests. Presentations and talks will not only encompass memories of the first manned landing on the Moon 50 years ago\, but also look to the future. In addition\, a diverse space show presented by the DLR_School_Lab on the programme stage will explain to visitors in an entertaining yet informative way how\, for example\, microgravity works. \nIf the weather is favourable\, the flying sports group will offer sightseeing flights in gliders and powered aircraft giving visitors the opportunity to view events from above. Young researchers can test their knowledge during the Open Day with the children’s quiz. In addition to this\, there will also be a painting and crafts corner\, as well as other great items including the voluntary fire brigade and the Bavarian Red Cross. DLR’s cafeteria and numerous food stands will provide refreshments with a variety of meals and beverages. There will also be live music from two bands and a DJ. The DLR recruiting team provides you with information about entry opportunities at its career stand. \n  \nAdmission and Opening Times: \n\nAdmission is free of charge.\nEvent time: 10:00 – 17:00\nPlease note that the last admission is at 16:00!\n\nPlease pay attention to our event guidelines: \n\nDuring the event\, photography and/or filming will be taking place\, which may be used for the purposes of reporting and general publicity in various media. DESCRIPTION:Picture: Vadim Sadovski \n  \nFifty years after Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin set foot on the Moon\, a major exhibition at the Heinz Nixdorf MuseumsForum (HNF) in Paderborn will chart the conquest of space. Running from 5 July 2019 to 19 April 2020\, the exhibition titled “Aufbruch ins All” (“Breakup into Space”) will whisk visitors away on an adventurous journey through time and space. Spread over 800 square metres\, the exhibition is set against an awe-inspiring backdrop of darkness\, planets and space vehicles. In addition to historical and technological exhibits such as robots\, propulsion systems and control modules\, models of rockets or the International Space Station (ISS) will illustrate how humankind has ventured forth into the Universe. \nVisitors will be able to take a seat in a replica of the Apollo 17 lunar module to enjoy a virtual drive across the Moon. A virtual reality tour will let them explore the ISS and conduct a docking manoeuvre lying down in a reconstructed Soyuz capsule. They will also have the chance to take a selfie as astronauts and to discover the layers of a spacesuit using an augmented reality application. Many of the interactive exhibits have been specially created and provide a unique experience of space. There will be a Lunar Lander Land playground for children\, where they will be able to weigh planets\, leave their footprint in ‘lunar dust’ and clamber through a moon landing craft. \nThis exhibition was designed by HNF in cooperation with the DLR Space Administration. Admission to the exhibition will cost €5.00\, with reduced tickets available for €3.00. A family ticket will cost €10.00 and will include access to the permanent exhibition. Guided tours will be organised for groups and there will be a series of talks catering to aerospace and astronomy enthusiasts.

Tobias Schripp from the DLR Institute for Combustion Technology will speak on current developments in the area of aviation fuels and explain how those new fuels are already being investigated in real test flights.\n18:00: Dr Peter Kutne\, also from the DLR Institute for Combustion Technology\, will explain what lies behind so-called micro gas turbines. The talk will describe the simple principle underpinning these small gas turbines for residential buildings\, which could play an important role in the energy transition. He will also summarise the development opportunities for this cogeneration technology.\n19:00: Dr Reiner Buck from the DLR Institute of Solar Research will explain how solar power is generated at night from hot desert sand. His talk will show how solar energy can be stored at low cost and used when needed – including at night – to generate power.\n\nRegistration is requested. \n

DESCRIPTION:On 27 June 2019\, DLR’s Technology Marketing department is organising the second DLR Business Lounge. \nThe Business Lounge is the DLR networking meeting for all former\, current and future DLR spin-offs. Here\, you have the opportunity to get in touch with relevant stakeholders\, gain an insight into spin-off activities at DLR and exchange ideas within  DLR’s internal start-up network. \nThe networking meeting will be accompanied by talks on spin-off relevant topics\, followed by a discussion. Different DLR spin-offs and start-up projects will also be presented. \nThe subject of this year’s Business Lounge is internationalisation. What opportunities and risks arise as a result of the development of new markets? When does it make sense to take the next step? \nTechnology Marketing has gotten two experts to speak about this topic: \nIn her talk\, Andrea Diewald from the German American Chamber of Commerce will discuss which factors are particularly important to enter the US market. She has many years of experience in supporting German spin-offs in entering the US market. \nIn his talk\, Wolfram Peschko\, Chairman of Mynaric AG\, will discuss his own experiences as an entrepreneur. DESCRIPTION:Workshop and target group \nDuring a one-day workshop\, the advantages of the digital prototype in product development will be demonstrated in a practical way. As an example\, a digital prototype for a construction crane will be developed and assembled. Different components will be investigated and designed with regard to the application scenarios\, model-based processes for controlling the system will be demonstrated\, error cases simulated and a virtual commissioning of the digital prototype with a real coupled PLC will be shown. \nThe participants will be able to follow the digital product design in small groups on the computer themselves. In addition\, the basics of the methods used will be explained and further industrial applications will be presented. The workshop is aimed at development engineers and development managers\, and through to interested managing directors who are looking to boost their prototype development through physically correct simulations or setting up / expanding a simulation department. \n  \nOrganiser \nThe newly created Systems and Control Innovation Lab (SCIL) is located at the DLR Institute of System Dynamics and Control. In the modernly equipped laboratory hall\, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have access to the latest methods and software tools for modelling\, controlling and regulating complex mechatronic systems. \nThe ZD.B dual-topic platform Digital Production & Engineering is an innovation promoting platform for Bavaria’s experts in the fields of digital product development and production\, which is networked and sets impulses in terms of content.
