Wireless network in space: ISS experiment shows new technology

20. July 2023 @ 14:00 - 15:30
Public | Free

Wireless Compose is an experiment on the International Space Station (ISS) testing a wireless network using a technology called ultra-wideband. This network should allow astronauts and objects to communicate with each other without being disturbed by other signals. It consists of seven wireless modules designed to help determine the position of objects and astronauts and monitor their movements. In addition, the experiment should use the energy from artificial light sources in order to be carried out efficiently. It is examined whether the network is suitable for monitoring environmental parameters within the ISS module and whether it can also be operated with radiation effects and energy harvesting. This experiment is also carried out in the EDEN ISS Greenhouse in Antarctica.
