Mobile Hydrogen Peroxide Transport and Storage Container
High test peroxide (HTP) is a promising ‘green’ propellant for future space propulsion systems. It decomposes catalytically, and its chemical reaction produces only water vapour and oxygen byproducts. It is also neither toxic nor carcinogenic and remains liquid at room temperature. This makes it significantly easier to handle and more cost-effective than conventional, often cryogenic propellants. When used in hybrid engines, for example, it enables inherent reignition capability and good thrust modulation over a wide operating range. Such engines are particularly attractive for use as upper-stage propulsion in small launch systems.
The use of HTP in satellite engines and for attitude control is also an increasing focus for research institutions and commercial providers. Despite the easier handling, the use of HTP requires suitable infrastructure for transport, storage and refuelling. To make this infrastructure available worldwide, we have designed and built the Mobile Hydrogen Peroxide Transport and Storage Container (MoHyPer). MoHyPer is integrated into a 20-foot high-cube container and certified for land, sea and rail transport.
MoHyPer combines the following capabilities:
- Transport and storage of up to 1100 litres of HTP (climate-controlled and remotely monitored)
- Provision of ultrapure water through an integrated purification system
- Remote-controlled oxidiser refuelling via an integrated pump and piping system
- Remote-controlled high-pressure supply for pressurisation systems with inert gases up to 1000 bar
- Provision of necessary safety equipment (for example emergency shower, emergency drum flooding)
Thanks to these features, MoHyPer enables reliable, responsive, flexible and safe operation of hydrogen peroxide-powered rocket stages and payloads at any launch site worldwide.
