11:00 – 11:30 CEST | Sustainable aviation fuels: perspective for aviation and example for technology transfer

DLR-Live-Stream with

Prof. Manfred Aigner

For the energy-intensive long-haul journeys, sustainable synthetic fuels represent the most realistic alternative to conventional kerosene. For medium-haul flights, the fuels also known as SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuels) are a comparatively quickly available technology. In this interview, Professor Manfred Aigner, long-time director of the DLR Institute of Combustion Technology and expert in the field of synthetic fuels, describes what electricity-based fuels are all about, what opportunities they offer and what steps are necessary to make the technology fit for industrial use and to make it possible to produce large quantities. He also explains the successful path of sustainable fuels from research to industrial application.
