Robotics is the key to the space applications of the future. It can support humans in the hostile environment of space or explore targets that were previously not possible for humans – and with maximum scientific benefit. The development of robust assemblies and systems for use in space – at the edge of what is technically feasible – plays a vital role in the preparation of future missions. These include arms and joints for use in on-orbit servicing (maintenance and repair in space).
