Dornier DO 328-100 (D-CUPL) research aircraft

Technology demonstrator for the development of innovative propulsion system concepts

The Dornier 328 ‘UpLift’ will be used as a flying test bed for environmentally friendly aviation technologies, such as fully synthetic fuels or hydrogen as a potential future sustainable aviation fuel. The flying test laboratory will be used by national industry, but also by SMEs and start-ups, as well as research institutions, to test new, environment-friendly system, fuel and propulsion technologies under real conditions and to significantly expedite their deployment in aviation.

DLR is conducting the flight experiments alongside research. The necessary modifications to the aircraft are being developed and realised in close cooperation with the aircraft manufacturer Deutsche Aircraft and other qualified development companies. UpLift is stationed at the DLR site in Braunschweig, where it is part of the largest civilian research fleet in Europe.
