DLR UpLift research aircraft

The Dornier DO 328-100 (D-CUPL), flying testbed for environmentally friendly technologies

The Dornier 328 ‘UpLift’ will be on display at ILA 2024 at the stand of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK). The DLR research aircraft will be used as a flying testbed for environment-friendly aviation technologies, for example for fully synthetic fuels or hydrogen as possible future sustainable aviation fuels. The flying DLR test laboratory will be used by German industry, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises, start-ups and research institutions, to test new, environmentally friendly system, fuel and propulsion technologies under real-life conditions and significantly accelerate their deployment in aviation.

In addition to research, DLR is also conducting the flight experiments. The necessary modifications to the aircraft are being developed and implemented in close cooperation with the aircraft manufacturer Deutsche Aircraft and other authorised development companies. The aircraft is stationed at the DLR site in Braunschweig, where it joins the largest civilian fleet of research aircraft in Europe.
