Europe’s control centre for all human and robotic missions to the Moon and Mars
The Human Exploration Control Center (HECC) is being established at DLR’s site in Oberpfaffenhofen as part of the German Space Operations Center (GSOC). It will serve as the central European control centre for all human and robotic missions to the Moon and Mars.
The HECC builds on the successful operation of the Columbus module aboard the International Space Station (ISS). The existing infrastructure at GSOC is therefore being expanded and an additional building is under construction. This facility will accommodate up to 200 staff members, a lunar control centre with dedicated cleanrooms, and multi-mission rooms that will enable the parallel operation of various types of missions.
High-security areas with separate server and control rooms will ensure that the facility is prepared to meet the increasingly demanding operational requirements in the future. The GSOC team is also developing new operational and mission concepts for future Moon and Mars missions.
