Space Shop of the DLR social welfare organisation
Finding oneself in hardship due to circumstances beyond one’s control is one of the most common causes of social decline, often leading to poverty. This could happen to any of us, without any personal ability to prevent it. The idea of solidarity and support for those affected lies at the heart of the organisation’s work.
DLR’s social welfare organisation (Sozialwerk beim DLR e.V.) is a nationwide organisation founded on 23 November 1998. Since then, it has contributed to strengthening social cohesion through its activities. The Sozialwerk operates on a non-profit basis, dedicated exclusively to charitable purposes – in particular the support of schools. Its activities are funded through membership fees, donations and, above all, the proceeds from the organisation’s own Space Shop, which includes an online shop and a physical outlet at DLR’s site in Cologne. The Space Shop offers a wide range of items bearing the DLR logo. The Sozialwerk aims to ensure that DLR’s activities – which are important to society, industry and the international research community – as well as the wealth of scientific knowledge generated at DLR, remain in people’s minds for years to come.
