Methane Remote Sensing Lidar Mission – model of the laser payload, scale 1:1
MERLIN – the Methane Remote Sensing Lidar Mission – is a French-German cooperation project between the French space agency (CNES) and the German Aerospace Center (DLR). CNES is providing the satellite platform and will operate the satellite, while DLR is supplying the payload – an IPDA LIDAR (IPDA: Integrated Path Differential Absorption; LIDAR: Light Detecting and Ranging). The heart of the payload is a pulsed laser with alternating wavelengths, developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT in Aachen.
