YANTRA

YANTRA team in final of KUKA Innovation Award 2024

In countries such as India, Japan and Indonesia the clothing and textiles sector is characterised by traditional craftsmanship and is under pressure from mass production. As a contribution to the KUKA Innovation Award 2024, the YANTRA team is developing a robot assistant to support the professional production of sustainable hand-woven textiles in micro-factories to shorten production times while preserving the creative aspect of craftsmanship.

Within the team, members of the Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics at the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) are working on a collaborative application for individual robot programming, which is complemented by a language-to-motion model developed in collaboration with Reverie Language Technologies (RLT). The National Handloom Development Corporation (NHDC), India, is advising the project on handloom processes.
